Lion’s Mane is an important medicinal mushroom that has been used since ancient times in East Asia to treat neurasthenia and general debility. Constituents present in Lion’s Mane exert beneficial effects on the nervous system, particularly hericenones and erinacines, which have been found to stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis and are thought to be responsible for much of the mushroom’s neuroprotective and nootropic activities. Lion’s Mane has also been shown to enhance myelination in preclinical trials. Subsequently, Lion’s Mane is a medicinal mushroom that is highly indicated for nervous system health, including neurodegenerative disorders.
