GROUP CLASS RULES
Our rules and policies have been set and put in place so Riverina K9 Academy can provide a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Our group classes are great for students wanting to get the best start with their puppy, proof and generalise their dog’s established skills in a social environment as well as students wanting to work on their dog’s behaviour and associations around other people or dogs.
An initial skills and behaviour assessment is required to be passed to join in our group obedience classes. This is so we can make sure you and your dog meet the basic requirements at a beginners level to participate safely and productively. A dog must first be able to do some very basic and foundational exercises and engage with their handler at an entry level to participate. This assessment will require a prior booking and will have an additional fee. Following your dog’s assessment we can provide you the best advice on how to achieve the goal of group class participation. Group classes are not always the best place for every dog and person to begin their training journey therefore private tuition is at times required to help preparation in terms of skills and associations around new people or dogs in this type of social situation.
These classes are structured for a range of ages, breeds and skill levels (beginners, intermediate and advanced) to maintain and further proof or generalise their dogs obedience and skills.
It is important your dog is healthy and physically able to participate in the classes.
You will be required to provide adequate distance between your dog and others at all times. This includes upon your entry and exit to the training yard. On leash greetings are strictly prohibited at all times unless instructed by a trainer. Our classes are a mixture of participants focussing on skills and behaviour around other dogs and people. A safe distance between participants is important to keep everyone safe and advocated for.
You are required to bring your dog to class on quality, suitable equipment that is secured properly without fault. You must meet the requirements to handle your dog in terms of your strength and ability to handle them in a group situation. The details of this will be discussed prior with one of our trainers.
You are required to bring your own treats in a suitable treat pouch to each session. This includes enough treats to go through a 45 minute session. It is important your dog is hungry to want to work for the food rewards over the course of this session.
You must be over 15 years of age to handle a dog in our group classes. Minors will be required to be completly supervised at a 1:1 ratio by an adult at all times – this is not inclusive of supervision from the handler participating in the class. It is important those participating as handlers are in attendance only in the training yard. We will have additional chairs at each session if you would like to attend in pairs and take turns handling your dog during g the session. Every handler will need to be assessed prior to meet knowledge and physical ability requirements.
You must not miss anymore than 3 group classes in a row, otherwise a skills and behaviour assessment will be required. This will not include if weeks are missed due to trainer absence or bad weather.
At the beginning of each week to secure your class space you will register your name on class roll call post on our private Facebook group posted by your trainer. Our group class places are by prior booking only as their are capped numbers. The organiser will comment when maximum numbers have been reached. We have the right to refuse participation if this process is not followed or we have reached class capacity. Where you and your dog are a no show to a booked class you will still be issued a fee to cover your training space.
Payment for each class is required at each session. We accept electronic payments only via our square card tapping system. Please bring your card or phone with you to class to make this payment on the day.
Prime roll or air dried treats can be purchased at the end of each session.
Ongoing communication to all group participants is made available regularly via our private Riverina K9 Academy Group Class Facebook group that you will be given access to following passing an inutial assessment or forecasted private training tuition. It is all students obligation to keep updated on all communication and posts regularly to inform participation.
Compliance to all rules and regulations are required to participate in our classes. Any recommendations or decisions made by Riverina K9 staff are final.
Our mission is to provide all students a safe and positive environment to keep learning and improving with their dog.
